Magic mushroom droplets: Here is everything you need to know

Magic mushroom droplets

You have probably heard about magic mushrooms or maybe you have tried them yourself. But there is a new and interesting way to use psychedelics that has become increasingly popular recently: magic mushroom droplets. It makes dosing a lot easier and makes for a more controlled experience. But what are these magic mushroom drops anyway? How long do they work? Can you make them yourself? While reading this blog, you will get answers to all your questions.

What are magic mushroom droplets?

As the name suggests, magic mushroom droplets are a liquid form of psilocybin. They are obtained from the active ingredients of magic mushrooms or -truffles. By processing the extract into a liquid, users can take the drug with just a few drops. This makes it a lot easier to take small, precise amounts. This is perfect for people who crave a lighter psychedelic experience or for those who want to “microdose”. Later in this blog, we will go into more detail about microdosing with magic mushroom drops.

What do magic mushroom drops feel like: effects explained

The effects of magic mushroom drops are similar to those of traditional magic mushrooms or magic truffles, with the intensity depending heavily on the dosage. How long mushroom drops work also depends on the dosage taken. In most cases, a trip lasts 4 to 6 hours. At low doses (microdosing), you notice subtle changes in your mood, focus and creativity. You often feel more energetic, more connected with your surroundings and less stressed.

At higher doses, the effects can be visually and emotionally much more intense. Think of colourful patterns, a changing sense of time, deep insights and feeling one with the world around you. This “trip” can be both euphoric and confrontational.

While mushroom drops can be a positive experience for many people, there are also side effects of them that may not always be positive. Possible side effects of magic mushroom drops include nausea, headache, confusion or anxiety. These occur more often at higher doses or if the user is not feeling well mentally.

As with all psychedelics, it is important to create a safe and comfortable setting, be mentally prepared and preferably have a “trip sitter”. A trip sitter is sober and is always there for emergencies.

Difference between magic mushroom droplets and other psychedelics

Although magic mushroom droplets contain the same active ingredient as magic mushrooms or truffles, there are some important differences:

  • Dosage and convenience: magic mushroom droplets are more precise to dose. You don't have to chew large pieces of truffles or magic mushrooms, which is more comfortable for some people.
  • Taste: magic mushrooms and truffles have a bitter or earthy taste. Truffle drops are easier to wash down and often taste milder.
  • Effect duration and intensity: due to the liquid form, the effect often kicks in faster. The intensity is similar, but often described as smoother.
  • Comparison with other psychedelics: unlike LSD or DMT, psilocybin is naturally derived from fungi. LSD works much longer (8-12 hours) and DMT is extremely short (15 minutes) but intense. Paddodrops are nicely in between in terms of duration and intensity (4-6 hours), which makes them popular with people not looking for an overwhelming experience.

Dosage: how many drops should you take?

The right dosage strongly depends on your intended experience, body weight and the strength of the extract (in this case the strength of the mushroom itself). In general:

  • Mild experience: 5 to 10 drops (0.5 ml to 0.1 ml)
  • Medium trip: 10 to 20 drops (1.0 ml to 2.0 ml)
  • Intense experience: 20+ drops (from 2.0 ml onwards, only meant for experienced users)

Please note that manufacturers may use different concentrations. Always consult the packaging or information from the supplier. It is wise to start with a low dose, especially if you have little to no experience with psychedelics. Build up slowly (use 30 minutes as a benchmark to dose again) and listen carefully to your body and mind.

Microdosing magic mushroom droplets

You can also microdose mushroom drops easily. A big advantage when dosing them is that it is a lot easier. When microdosing, you use 0.1 to 0.3 ml (often 1-3 drops). You then take this every other day or according to a schedule. You take a small, almost imperceptible amount, as it were, which does give you the positive effects on your concentration, mood, creativity and productivity.

A common method is the Fadiman method: take one microdose every other day, followed by one rest day. This way, you avoid building up tolerance and keep the effects optimal.

Can you make magic mushroom drops yourself?

Yes, you can make magic mushroom droplets yourself. Making your own mushroom drops is something some people find interesting if they have experience with psychedelics and are looking for a more controlled way of dosing. However, it requires caution, knowledge of dosages and safe handling of magic mushrooms. Below, you can read in a step-to-step guide on how to make your own magic mushroom droplets.

Step-to-step guide on how to make your own mushroom droplets

  1. Grow or buy dried mushrooms: make sure you know how much psilocybin (the amount of active substance of the magic mushroom) is in them, preferably from a reliable source.
  2. Grind the mushrooms: use a coffee grinder, mortar or even a weed grinder to process them into a powder.
  3. Weigh the powder accurately: e.g. 5 grams for a small batch of extract.
  4. Put the powder in a clean glass jar: use a sealable jar or bottle.
  5. Add ethanol or strong alcohol: enough to completely submerge the powder (like 40-50 ml).
  6. Let this mixture steep for a few days: put it in a cool, dark place and shake daily.
  7. Filter the mixture: use a fine sieve or coffee filter to extract the powder.
  8. Divide the clear extract: measure the total amount of liquid. In that way, you will later know exactly how much psilocybin per milliliter is present.
  9. Fill a dropper bottle: use, preferably a dark coloured (brown or blue), glass dropper bottle with a tight-fitting cap and pipette. Fill the bottle to just below the rim and write the necessary information on the label: strength per ml, date and type of mushroom.
  10. Storage: always store your mushroom dropper bottle in a cool and dark place. This way, they remain stable the longest.

With this handy step-by-step plan, you can experiment with (microdosing) mushroom drops yourself.

Why magic mushroom droplets have become so popular

The rise of mushroom drops is no accident. More and more people are looking for a controlled, accessible and subtle way to experience the benefits of psilocybin. With mushroom drops, you know better how much you are taking, which is a big advantage for microdosers. They are also easier to use, taste less gross and you can carry them around more easily.

Finally, the popularity is due to the growing interest in personal development, mental health and alternative ways to tackle stress, gloom or creative blocks. These days, people are more often looking for mild, supportive experiences that enrich their daily lives: mushroom droplets are the perfect fit for.

If you want to try this, make sure you feel good about yourself, know what you are taking, make sure you have a pleasant setting and always have a trip sitter.
